First Day of Sale: January 8, 2015 (8:00 A.M. Eastern Time) - The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is pleased to introduce the 2015 Panama Canal Commemorative "Eagle" Intaglio Print. This intaglio print focuses on the 100th anniversary of the celebration of the opening of the Panama Canal.  The “Eagle” print features a compilation of images representative of the 1915 World’s Fair in San Francisco.  It also features two Panama-Pacific Exposition issued postage stamp images.

Top Left - “Medallion Portrait of Christopher Columbus.” Engraved in 1915 by Louis S. Schofield and Joachim C. Benzing. Columbus was an explorer and navigator. He completed four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean, initiating the Spanish colonization of the New World.

Center - “Vignette – Eagle for Panama California Exposition.” Completed in 1915. Original eagle vignette engraved in 1886 by Lorenzo J. Hatch (Miscellaneous Die 3005). Additional engraving for the Panama souvenir by Louis K. Siggons and Joachim C. Benzing.
