(First day of sale:  June 3, 2013 - 8:00 AM ET) -- The Bureau of Engraving and Printing is pleased to introduce the first card in a series of three intaglio prints, “Ideals In Allegory,” dedicated to female allegorical figures representing peace, justice, and liberty.

This print Peace features an exquisite compilation of unique engraved allegorical vignettes focusing on the age-old art of intaglio printing.

Description of Images: 

Top Left  – Vignette - Peace (Miscellaneous Die #3283)

Engraved by the American Bank Note Co., (c 1863).  Used on bonds and interest notes in 1863 and 1864, as well as on a 1 pound snuff stamp from 1872. 

Top RightVignette - Peace (Miscellaneous Die #7081) Engraved by G.F.C. Smillie, 1909.  Used on coupon faces for the $1,000 Puerto Rico Consolidation Bond, 1935, 1937-1946. 

Bottom Center – Vignette - Government (Miscellaneous Die #13988) Engraved by Charles A. Brooks, 1937.

Border Design  and  Oval Frames – Printed in Offset.
